Zero Trust and Runtime Security for Edge - Rick Moy, Accuknox

There are few myths about Zero trust, 1) it encompasses network security alone 2) applicable for cloud workloads only 3) can be done with a flick of a switch. The abstract highlights aspects of zero trust that encompasses three dimensions 1) Application 2) Network 3) Data ... These dimensions need to be protected with the Zero trust approach and the session will provide insights into why it is difficult. The foremost reason been that the zero trust posture is a moving target given that the app is updated every few weeks if not more often. Secondly, protecting at runtime from all dimensions (app, network, data) is especially hard without the right processes and automation. Doing Zero Trust at Edge is even more difficult given the challenging conditions such as 1) absence of always-on connectivity 2) network/device constraints 3) hard latency requirements. The session will talk about the use-case/POC that was done along with LF-Edge OpenHorizon platform. Specifically, it will highlight the security usecases targeted for edge platform and why runtime zero trust made sense in the context and providing what actual solutions were taken into considerations and the POC that was undertaken.
